Hi, my name is Michael.
I have autism. My imagination spirals, and I have a lot of stuff inside my head I want to share. Art is one of the ways I do that. I have always liked art, but art means something different to me than to most people. Anything that you put your heart, mind, and soul into is art to me. A book is art, a building is art, a robot is art, a family is art, Love Is Art.
This portfolio contains several pieces of visual art I have made over the last four years. My art wasn’t always this vibrant. I used to stop at the simple sketch, a black and white outline. As time has passed, I find myself able to put more color, more soul, into what I create. Art has become not just a pastime, it’s a way to get myself outside of my brain.
My preferred medium is still paper and pencil, but I have explored other types of media to give each piece their little shard of soul. I have learned how to use watercolor, pastels, coloured pencils, and CGI (computer generated imagery). Beginning with a rough sketch made with pencil, I then colour it with another type of media, turning a drawing into a piece of art. I am very interested in computer animation, and hope to become even better at it.
I want to tell the world everything I can about me; I like dogs, I like being warm (not hot, warm), and I like art. However, I am rather shy around people, so I let my art do the talking for me. I want to get to the point where I have my imagination outside of my head, so others can experience it like I do. My hope is that others will understand how I see the world, and that they appreciate me for it.
